Pipe Selection:If you are starting a new project and you are uncertain which pipe system to use, I have listed a few points which will put you in the right direction.
We offer four different plastic pipe systems.
PUSH FIT:        A system designed for domestic waste water management. All fittings have sockets with a rubber seal ('O' ring) which prevents leakage when the pipe is inserted. Only suitable for low pressure drainage use, limited range of fittings. Low cost.
SOLVENT WELD:        Joining is by glueing pipe into sockets <solvent weld> Once made joints will not seperate. Designed as a domestic waste water drainage system, so limited in the range of fittings and connections available for more complex installations. Advantage: usually cheaper and more easily available than pressure pipe and fittings.
IMPERIAL:        A true pressure system rated up to 16bar. Good range of fittings and connections. System can be glued and screwed together. Common use in the US and UK.
METRIC:        A versatile pressure system rated to 16bar excellent range of fittings for glue and threaded fittings, more economical than imperial system Common use in Europe and UK.
THREAD SIZES:        Threaded fittings cause confusion, this is because they can be female (Internal thread) or male (External thread) plus when measured they don't seem to correspond to any particular pipe size! The only good thing is that all pipe systems use the same threaded fittings (so these can be interchangeable) but watch out for american NPT fittings. Pipe thread chart

PIPE IDENTIFICATION
If you start a new project which involves pumped water, use a pipe system which glues and screws together
If you are not sure what size pipe and fittings you already have, measure the OUTSIDE diameter of the pipe or the  INSIDE diameter of the socket in millimetres (mm) use the charts below to identify the pipe.

If you have one pipe size but want to convert it to another pipe system, we offer a range of conversion fittings and adaptor bushes which can be used to change certain pipe sizes to the nearest equivalent of a different system.
