Technical Data Sheet: P1 POND KOTE
P1 s a twin pack water based epoxy resin coating designed for safe and easy application in the Marine and Aquatic Industry. P1 has many additional advantages over conventional pond coatings.
Once Dry P1 will form a tough waterproof non-toxic barrier
P1 is resistant to oil, petrol and some mild chemicals & and can be cleaned easily using a soft brush.
Its Uses: Rendered ponds
Food/hygiene e.g. Abattoirs, dairies/milking parlours
Concrete Floors, wooden floors, fences
Garden Ornaments
Swimming Pools
Pond surrounds
Plastic surfaces, Glass
Water Tanks
Instructions for Use:
Preparation. Surfaces must be clean and free of grease/contamination. Surfaces can be slightly damp but not wet or subject to running water. Do not use solvents of any type - use water based de-greasers that can be washed away thoroughly and allowed to dry leaving no residue. All holes must be made good as they will fill up with the coating and discoloration will occur. All leaks must be stopped with either P3 Water Stop or P5 Putty. Where damp or wet surfaces exist constantly apply P6 tanking slurry first or seek technical advice. Do not apply P1 to render which contains PVA as this does not allow penetration of the coating. A weak SBR solution mixed in render is suitable. All above products are available from us. Please follow instructions exactly and refer to label for water addition.
Stir the contents of the larger tub.
Pour the contents of the smaller tub into the larger one, scraping out all the liquid and mix vigorously for 4 minutes to ensure thorough mixing. Add fresh clean tap water in 4 equal parts, totaling the volume specified on the label, mixing well on each addition. (No water addition is needed for the clear coating) P1 is now ready to apply.
It is important that the entire contents of each pot are mixed together, the proportion of the mixture is crtical. any attempt at part mixes (to save some for later) will in all probability result in the failure of the coating.
Application:Apply using a brush or roller.
Cement render should be allowed to dry/cure before application of P1, in good weather allow 1 day per 0.5" thickness of render.
Apply P1 coating and allow to dry (normally 8 hours @ 20 °C) Drying time is affected by temperature - colder conditions = longer drying time. Apply a second coat of P1 when first coat is touch dry.
Important: P1 is a coating and not a paint, It is a chemically engineered two-pack coating. Therefore you have, once mixed, 1-2 hours to apply the coating - this is referred to as the Pot-Life. Full cure is the time it takes for the coating to become totally solid.
Pot Life 1-1.5 hours @ 20 C ; Touch Dry 8 hours @ 20°C; Full cure 3-7 days
Coverage: Depending on the surface coverage and porosity of the substrate coverage is approximately 5 square metres per litre minimum.
Cleaning: Brushes and rollers can be cleaned out with cold water and detergent straight after use as the coating on these brushes/rollers will cure if left.
Storage: Store in a dry, cool, and frost free place in their original containers - shelf-life - 12 months in those conditions.
Precautions: Once P1 is fully cured, wash the pond thoroughly with a hosepipe - then drain before filling. Once the pond is filled it is good practice to test the water and introduce a few trial fish and leave for 2-3 days. This is not to test the coating but to ensure that all practices have been carried out correctly in relation to the other aspects of the pond system e.g. change of environment , construction, filtration, water quality etc From our own experience we find that cutting back on the quantity of water added to the second coat, by 50% of the stated recommendations on the packaging, we find that a thicker and a much more desirable finish is achieved. If a third coat is to be applied to achieve a truly superb smooth finish then cut back on the quantity of water added by a further 50%
