BRUSH HANGER
Biological filtration media is used in all filtration processes where the removal of ammonia and nitrite is required. Many different types of media are available, and all sorts of claims are made about them. The only thing that can be said for certain about biological filtration is that it is bacteria which make ammonia into nitrite and nitrite into nitrate. The media just provides a surface for the bacteria to colonise and get on with the filtration process.

Having said that different types of filter media do bring other benefits, and these assist in the clarification process - the removal of fine suspended particles from the water- whilst having a minimal effect on the waters passage through the media. This means the filter can work for longer before it need cleaning.

FILTER BRUSHES are usually installed into the first bay of a  biological filter, where the quickly become colonised with bacteria  which. The high quality of these black night brushes is confirmed by the amount of heavy suspended solids they collect. Our filters are supplied with a brush hanging kit sufficient for two rows of brushes but more can be added as required.

Follow the installation guide below to get the best performance from the brushes.
The distance between the brushes should be as close to the recommended spacing as possible but the width of the chamber should be divided by the number of brushes required to give the spacing.
4" (100mm) brushes placed with centres at 3" (7.5cm) spacings
6" (150mm) brushes placed with centres at 5" (13cm) spacings

SPAWNING BRUSHES
If you have never bred fish before, you will be amazed how simple it can be with the help of Black Knight spawning brushes. The breeding season is weather dependent but is normally from April to July.
You need one mature female and a minimum of two mature males.Place the brushes just below the water level, one above the other, at the edge of the pond.
This will encourage the fish to spawn, which usually happens in the early hours of the morning, having been preceded by an evening of
flurried activity in the pond. The spawning takes several hours, during which most of the eggs will stick to the brushes.
After the spawning, it is a good idea to separate the brushes from the broodfish, otherwise the eggs will be eaten. It is best to put the brushes in filtered water of the same temperature as before, and the fry will hatch in 3-6 days.
The small fish should be kept separate until they are large enough to be introduced to the pond.
Supplied two per pack 59" long x 5
½" diameter per brush

Note: Our spawning brushes are made from a soft material that won't harm your fish. Do not use filter brushes for this purpose.
