Skimmers are built into a side or end wall of a pond or pool so that the vertical open part of the mouth is set at the finished water level allowing for slight increases and decreases in the water level. The weir flap in the mouth of the skimmer adjusts automatically to the water level ensuring that only the very top surface is taken into the skimmer.
Skimmer are used to draw floating debris off the top water where it collects in the basket located in the body of the skimmer. This should be checked periodically and cleaned as necessary.
The skimmer works best by being connected directly to a pump various actions can be take with the pump outflow, it can be returned directly to the pond or it can be put into a biological filter, or sent to a water feature, or passed through a polishing filter such as a hydroclean or a protein skimmer.
Typical skimmer installation
The standard skimmer has a mouth opening 130mm high by 146mm wide. It is complete with loose clamp fixing screws and rubber seals for liner fixing, it can also be installed into concrete ponds. The outlet from the base is 1½" bsp female thread.
Wide Mouth Skimmer
The wide mouth skimmer increases the area of influence of the draw into the mouth. It is supplied with a standard skimmer to make a complete unit.
Standard Skimmer Extension
This extension is screwed to the face plate of the standard skimmer. It is for bridging through the block wall of a pond.
