Pipe Size and Dimensions Identification Chart

Domestic Waste Pipe Sizes.   Metric and imperial Pressure pipe sizes and identification
We offer four different plastic pipe systems.
PUSH FIT :    Polypipe range. A system designed for domestic waste drainage. All pipe fittings have sockets with a rubber seal which prevents leakage when the pipe is inserted. Only suitable for drainage use, limited range of pipe fittings.
SOLVENT WELD :   Polypipe range. Joining is by gluing pipe into sockets Once made joints will not separate. Designed as a domestic waste pipe drainage system, an excellent range of pipe fittings and some threaded pipe fittings available for more complex installations.
IMPERIAL :   A true pressure system rated up to 16bar. Good range of glue socket pipe fittings and threaded bsp connections. System can be glued and screwed together. Use for water and chemicals.
METRIC :   A versatile pressure system rated to 16bar excellent range of pipe fittings for glue and threaded fittings, more economical than imperial system Use for water and chemicals.
Pipe Sizes and descriptions can be confusing, usually because the actual pipe size bears no resemblance to its' description.
For example 1½" imperial pressure pipe, when measured on its' outside diameter is exactly 48.3mm or just under 2". Many people make the assumption that it is 2" pipe and go on to order fittings only to find they don't fit. Pipes from the different groups cannot be mixed. Special conversion fittings must be used to change from one to another if necessary.

Pipe Sizes and Dimensions Chart
Find the outside diameter of your pipe to the nearest millimetre, use a tape measure or vernier gauge.
Then find this size down the left hand column, read across the four coloured columns on the right to find the group and description for your size pipe. If your size only appears in one column, look at the top of that column to see which group it is - metric, imperial, solvent or push fit. If your pipe size appears in more than one column then it will work with all those groups. If the pipe is grey it is more likely to be pressure pipe. But please feel free to ask if you are uncertain
